The Old Barracks

A castle-like police barracks from the 1870s, now the town's heritage centre.

Built for the Royal Irish Constabulary to a design by Enoch Trevor Owen, the barracks has turrets and a 'Schloss' style unusual in Ireland. The often-told story that the plans were meant for India is a local myth. Today it is the town's heritage centre.
